Blog Post #1

15 April 2013

Blogging is another passion of mine, not only do I like to blog about my latest fashion finds, the things that make me happy and what I have been up to in my free time. I also like to blog about other fashion bloggers which is why throughout our blog page you will see interviews I have conducted with different fashion bloggers and store owners. This is where I get a lot of my inspiration from and fashion is really what YOU make of it. Don't be afraid to experiment and overall just have fun!

Our Blog

So here we are! A dream that I decided to turn into reality.

Elegant Closet is an online clothing boutique that specialises in women’s clothing and accessories.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a girly girl. I love all pretty things like floral, glitter, pinks and dresses. Wait! Actually everything and anything that is for a woman I most likely own already.
I have wanted to start my own online boutique for quite some time. The more people I meet and speak to about life in general, my dreams and my passion for clothing and accessories the more push I get to follow my dreams and turn them into reality – which I now have and am loving every moment of it. There is a saying that I have stuck on my computer screen at work that I came across a while ago: “If you believe in yourself, you are already half way there”. It can be difficult to start believing in yourself but once you do it is all up hill and anything seems achievable.
I have made a vow to myself and Elegant Closet to blog once a week and share any new clothing or accessory tips I manage to pick up along the way. I am no guru or expert when it comes to clothing and accessories just an average girl that loves anything to do with fashion and feeling beautiful.

Busy is an understatement!

This weekend I have been extremely busy. Not only have I been searching for new garments to add to our closet, I have been working on my blog, our new mix & match styling page, Mothers Day promotion, a new photo shoot with our latest garments and wrapping customer orders. You might think this is self-created and yes you're right BUT I am enjoying every minute I dedicate to Elegant Closet and wouldn't have it any other way...My partner might have something different to say about this though haha!

Today I did a mini photo shoot and the weather was absolutely terrible, we had torrential rain out on the property but we made it work with the cutest umbrellas. Every girl needs a cute umbrella, a must have for the Autumn/Winter Seasons. Amy my beautiful model was extremely patient and willing to put the wind, rain and cold aside and still look beautiful. After the photo shoot I decided to slip in some retail therapy, what a good way to brighten the miserable day. I bought a small bottle of perfume called "My Morgan" and cute hot pink woollen winter socks. I will definitely need them tonight along with a hot cup of tea to stay warm.

How fast has this year gone? Its almost May! which means Mothers Day....
Mothers Day is quickly approaching and as a small token of my appreciation to all the beautiful mothers out there, Elegant Closet would like to give you a gift voucher to be redeemed over the Mothers Day weekend. If you haven't already done so and wish to receive a gift voucher (valid to mothers only) please "like" our Facebook page and comment on the Mothers Day promotion status with your email address and a voucher will be on its way. (Entries close 5pm Wednesday 24 April 2013) so please be quick to send Elegant Closet your details.
What have you got planned for Mothers Day? I want to do something different this year for my mum, rather than the traditional family gatherings like lunch at a restaurant, go to another family members house or absolutely nothing, I need to look for alternatives! Any suggestions? On another note what do you even buy a mother that never wants anything and uses the excuse "save your money" as well as likes to wear everything of mine! Can I regift something I no longer wear? I think I have some serious planning to do.

Interview with Camden Fashion Blogger

Model to Fashion Blogger
She's our local addition to the fashion blogging scene. She's sweet, genuine and not to mention absolutely gorgeous. I sat down with Carly Everett to get all the inside knowledge on how she became 'Camden Fashion Blogger'.

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?
I have done a lot of modelling in the past and still occasionally model here and there. A friend of mine Billy, who I recently did a modelling shoot for to help promote his new fashion label (Woodyroo), inspired me to start fashion blogging. He thought it would be a good idea to start out locally and mix it up with not only posts of my own styles but get my friends and followers involved to post their own styles to inspire others. I thought it was a great idea and as I already had a modelling page on Facebook, I decided to convert that page to Camden Fashion Blogger and go from there. I have to admit it has been harder than I thought it would be. My friends and followers are not really up to sending me photos of themselves with their own individual styles. People are very shy!

Q How long have you been fashion blogging?
I am only relatively new to fashion blogging, I would say about three months now.

Q How would you describe your fashion style?
My Fashion style is not very casual; I do not own a lot of casual clothing. I am definitely a pants, heels and blazer type of girl. I guess if I had to give my style a name I would say quite conservative and I relate more to Black Lively (known as Serena) from Gossip Girl.

Q Tell me about your outfit choice tonight?
Black & White Jacket by Hunt No More
Back Skinny Legs by Lee Lix
Black High Heel Boots; these were sent to me by a modelling agency I recently worked for....Score!
White Celine Paris Tee
Black Celine Tote

Q What inspired your outfit choice today?
I didn't really have an inspiration today, I just decided to dress semi casual minus the high heel boots, they are new and I wanted to get a wear out of them.

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what two things would you tell them?
Less is more. I am not one for over doing it all, however in saying that it is good to experiment with a bit of colour i.e. a plain outfit with bright colour nails and lipstick.

Q What piece of clothing can you not live without?
Since I discovered my black Lee Lix jeans, I definitely cannot live without them and actually want to go and purchase another pair.

Q Who inspires you?
I am not inspired so much by people but more so by brands. Some of my inspirations are; Hunt No More, Camilla & Marc and a new brand I recently discovered from Sydney Fashion Blogger Ixiah. Come to think about it really any brand that is different but still affordable.

Q How can we find you?
You can find me on Tumblr: tumblr.com/cfashionb, Facebook: facebook.com/cfashionb and Instagram: @cfashionb

Picture Perfect

Are you the type of girl that when a night out has been arranged, whether it is with a group of girl friends, a date or your partner one of the key things on your list to purchase besides a new outfit are fake eyelashes? I am one of these girls!

I love how big eyelashes make your photos appear one hundred times better but the one thing I dislike about DIY eyelashes is they take forever to stick on and half way through the night they move and I look even more ridiculous then I did if I did not wear them at all. I have also been to professionals that put the individual fake eyelashes on for you, but I get extremely impatient laying in the same position with my eyes closed for up to an hour and because I have sensitive eyes, my eyes water for the first couple of days and it looks like I am constantly crying.. Not the best look at all!

During an Elegant Closet photo shoot last weekend, my model Amy was applying her makeup and I happened to look in her makeup bag and noticed this cute black & gold case with the word "SILK". Immediately I thought it was reading glasses as it came in the same shaped box but when Amy opened it and showed me what it was , I was completely excited and it was immediately down on my must have list!

You are probably wondering what I am talking about, SILK is a fibre lash mascara extension and the good thing about SILK is:
*Increases eyelash length and thickness by up to 300%
*Water resistant
*No more glue
*No more hour long appointments
*No more expense
*No time wasted
*No heavy lashes causing your real eyelashes damage
*Easily applied and removed

I purchased my first SILK fibre lash mascara extension last week and have used it everyday since. I cannot believe how instantly my eyelashes look longer and thicker.

You can purchase SILK from www.silkfibrelash.com.au Silk for me is definitely a must, want and need!

Getting to know Melissa Grimston

Elegant Closet sat down with Melissa Grimston to talk about how she juggles motherhood, being a wife, a  fashion stylist and business owner.

Q You are also known as the event coordinator for Camden Closet Sale, can you explain to me what Camden Closet Sale is?
Camden Close Sale is a community event where we have stall holders come along where they have the option to sell women's, men's and children's clothing. It can be used or new items or even a mix of everything and a chance to make some money and sell things from their closet.

Q How did you come up with this amazing idea and how long has it been up and running?
I had a label, a boutique in Paddington in 2008 but due to the GFC I made a decision to close the boutique down. I had a lot of left over stock so I used to try and sell it at Kirribilli, Glebe and city based markets. I found it difficult having to lug all my items back and forth every weekend especially living out this way in Camden. It became quite a drive so I thought it would be a good idea to start my own clothing market out this way as there isn't really anything like it around the Macarthur Area.

Q I know there is a charity involved with Camden Closet Sale, what charity is that and why did you choose this particular charity?
The charity involved is Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation.  I looked them up because I wanted to do something with kids. I had difficulties when I was pregnant and know of other people that have too. They are not government funded when it comes to newborn equipment in hospitals so I thought it would be a great idea to engage them about Camden Closet Sale.

Q When is the next Camden Closet Sale and Where?
The next event is Saturday 25th May 2013 at AH&I Hall Camden (Hall next to show ground) and opens from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today?
Blazer by Mango (European brand)
White Singlet by Witchery
Black Leather Pants by Zara
Fluro Heels are by Windsor Smith
Handbag by Louis Vuitton

Q What inspires your outfit choices?
Classic clean cut outfits, transeasonal outfits and monochromatic always works well for me.

Q What piece of clothing can you not live without?

My Prada handbag since my husband splurged on it for me in New York last year. I put on the puppy dog eyes and got it. It is a tanned colour and absolutely beautiful. I love it!

Q Who inspires you fashion wise?
People I genuinely tend to look at are: Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Anniston as they are streamlined with their looks. I like to pull from Elle McPherson as she can be like that at times with a bit of classic edge. Most mainstream stores pull straight from the runway and make it affordable like Zara and Gwen Stefani.

Q You're a wife & mother right? How do you manage to juggle it all and still look amazing at the same time? What is your secret or a tip to pass onto the readers?
If you saw me inside the house you wouldn't recognise me (laughs). I guess you have to make the time and not use the excuse 'I don't have time'. I always manage to make time regardless and there definitely is no excuse and at the end of the day you are to blame not the baby. Either if it is 5 minutes or in my case one hour, lay out your clothes the night before as this will help you the next day.

Q If you could give someone fashion advice what two things would you tell them?
Don't follow trends just because, not every trend will suit you. This is not a fashion rule more so a tip but as long as you keep it balanced. Proportions are a good way to describe it and when I say that I mean don't be tiny up the top and tiny on the bottom. Look at your body shape and work your outfit around that.

Q For someone like me who doesn't know what works and doesn't where can we get this advice from?
I am a wardrobe consultant and can come to your house. We print off fashion guidelines to keep in your wardrobe, go through the statement pieces (every woman should have) and then we take you shopping to fill in the gaps (only if you wish) and disregard what you do not need. (Another choice of yours)

Q How do you describe your fashion style?
Like I said I am quite classical I like to think, I am not a big bold print pattern person. I tend to go with one bold item and then dress accordingly.

Q I have seen some of your photos being posted on Camden Fashion Blogger site. Are there any future plans of you becoming a fashion blogger?
I have thought about it especially since I started using Instagram. I guess once you put yourself out there it becomes a full time job and needs to be constantly updated 24/7. At the moment it is not my number one priority as I am in the process of setting up a business with my husband. It is a fun thing to do on the side and I love it because that is how I like to dress but it is not my bread and butter right now.

Q How can we find you?

A Mothers Day Delight!
Today is Mothers Day! Firstly I would like to say Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, recent mothers and mothers/grand mothers that are no longer with us.

As I mentioned in Blog #2 I was struggling with ideas for Mothers Day & what to get my mum. After a bit of planning I arranged a picnic at Nepean River Cycle way Camden. It originally was a surprise but since my mum hates surprises I resulted in telling her a few days before what we were going to be doing. (I had to get her buy in before letting the family know where to meet us for the day).

How beautiful was the weather, the warm sunshine with an autumn breeze was the perfect gift for today, it made the picnic just that little bit more amazing!.

This morning was a rush driving around picking up the food but I got there in the end. When we arrived at the picnic ground it was absolutely full, cars and people everywhere. There was a charity walk for Breast Cancer awareness with market stalls, jumping castle, sausage sizzle and a band! Talk about free entertainment.

It was a lovely day to just sit back, eat lots and enjoy the sunshine. Minus the eating lots as its something I tend to do too much of, it was nice to just sit and do nothing! I have been so strapped for time lately that today just felt extra special, I could have fallen asleep in my fold out chair....Bliss!

The day started out as the four of us: Mum, Dad, Nan & I, then later on we got a surprise from my brother, his fiance (Chloe) and my two twin nieces. My nieces who are now (21 months) today just loved watching all the kids play on their bikes and run around the park, they had a ball. As the day went on I got a complete surprise from my partner Andrew, I wasn't expecting him today as I thought he was spending the day with his family...well he caught me by surprise when he was spying on me behind a tree and turned up for afternoon tea *Big smiles*.

I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day and enjoyed the beautiful day as much as I did. (Photos to the left are snapshots of my Mothers Day).

Love Always EC xx

Getting to know Fashion Blogger Gabrielle Bakunovich also known as "Stylish Kukla".

Q You are known as Stylish_Kukla, where did the choice of name come from?
My blog underwent a huge re-vamp at the end of 2012 and I changed the name from "The Avant-garde " to "Stylish Kukla" the name comes from my origins, with Kukla translating to doll in the Russian language (there are quite a few Russian homages on my blog). I have a tattoo quoting  ‘моя маленькая кукла’ my little doll, something my grandfather used to fondly call me. So there is a bit of sentimental value to it.

Q How long have you been a fashion blogger?
This May will be my 6th year! although I have deleted a lot of my old posts during my re-vamp (which I strongly regret).

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?
I was studying Fashion Design whilst in High School and thought it would be a good place to post what I have made and share my DIY (Do it yourself). I've always had an avid interest in fashion and art, they are one of the same in my opinion.

Q Gabrielle, tell me about what you are wearing today?
I go through phasis with my style, I don't like boxing myself.  I am pretty much open to anything . So you will notice there is no pattern to my outfit choices.
Wooden Heels by Siren
Silk Bird Blouse by Thrifted
Gold YSL earrings
YSL arty ring
Cartier Nail and Love Bracelet
Belt by Ralph Lauren
High Waisted Chiffon Trousers by Dorian Ho Collection.

Q What Inspired your outfit choice today?
I've just booked my tickets to Europe this July, so I've been inspired by European Summer, the Croatian coast & resort wear in general.

Q What is your favourite piece this season?
It's a bit of an obscure one - but the tweed revival, "So classic & chic".

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what two things would you tell them?
Don't concern yourself with other peoples opinions  on how you dress it is always better to be overdressed than under & keep it simple as less is often more.

Q What piece of clothing can you not live without?

Can I say my entire wardrobe?  but realistically....I cannot live without my Louis Vuitton plump Alma.

Q Who inspires you fashion wise?
I love Jessica Stam however I am inspired by everything and anyone, from street style, art instalments, colour, travel and the seasons. (particularly the change in seasons) the list goes on.

Q What do you like to do for fun?
I love hiking, meditating, yoga, flying  (aircrafts), and reading (oh and obviously blogging).

Getting to know Jo

Owner of Poppy Handmade Designs

Business Name: Poppy Handmade Designs

Q How Did you come up with your business name?
I always knew I was going to name my business after a flower, as it held the heart of my designs and flowers to me are a sense of being spoilt, femininity and all things that make a woman such a privilege.
Why the Poppy Flower? I researched the meaning of many different flowers and the meaning of Poppy resonated with me the most as it symbolises creativity and escapism. This truly captures my passion for embellishing and making pretty things that make women feel unique and beautiful.

Q How long has your business been up and running for now?
Just over three year now

Q What inspired you to start your own online business?
I have always been a creative soul and throughout my life I have poured my passion into my different creative ventures, but I decided 3 short years ago that I wanted to channel my creativity into something that I could share with others. Fashion has always been a passion of mine and I jus love pretty, feminine garments. Anything with frills, flowers, lace and anything that is a little bit different. I have never been one to follow trends, I like to stand out and be different and the more and more I wore my own designs the more and more I received compliments and encouragement to start my own label. So after lots of deliberating I decided to take the plunge and put myself out there.

Q How did you determine what you wanted to sell within your business?
I started with accessories - brooches, jewellery, headbands etc, then decided I wanted to expand into clothing so I started a small summer range of singlets, then this soon expanded to a winter range of beanies, neckwarmers and more recently boot cuffs.

Q What is your favourite item in your collection?
I love my neck warmers, they were new to Australia only 2 years ago, although they have been popular in colder climates overseas for many years. I loved that I was bringing something new to the market. I have since seen neckwarmers/snoods/cowls appearing in many fashion labels and retail stores which is fantastic.

Q Is Poppy Handmade Designs your full time job? If not, how do you go about managing your time?
Not at all, I work in the corporate world Monday to Friday. My label is purely my creative outlet, so happens when I can squeeze it in between family life, household chores and responsibilities etc. My tip to the readers is that you should only spend time being creative when you are truly feeling creative. If that means you only spend 1 hour per week then so be it, but let that one hour be purely "you" time, to express yourself and let yourself be free for a short time. Free of fashion trends, free of responsibilities, free of tress just enjoy it and if you end up making some money out of this 1 hour per week you invest then that is a fantastic bonus!

Q If you were to give someone a piece of fashion advice what would you tell them?
Be yourself, be inspired by others but never become a follower, stand out, and express yourself with how you present yourself.

Q What item in your wardrobe can you not live without?
Jeans! Haha, my family will attest to this. I own 42 pairs of blue jeans alone!

Q How can we find you?

Fashion Weekend has come and gone! Excitement to disappointment.....

I waited patiently for weeks for this day and as much as I was overly excited to be attending, when I arrived this morning I was slightly disappointed. It was  absolutely girl crazy and my beautiful partner Andrew was nice enough to tag along for the day to keep me company. He waited patiently outside each stall whilst I took my time looking at all the different garments each store had to offer, their customer service and to obtain ideas for Elegant Closet.
The catwalk was interesting and probably the most enjoyable part of my day. When we arrived we were seated on the grand stand front row, talk about exciting! Being so short it was the best view. The show running order consisted of the following designers (you can look them up online or via instagram).
01 Bec & Bridge
02 Stylestalker
03 Watson  X Watson
04 Ixiah
05 Nicola Finetti
06 Talulah
07 Hussy
08 Natasha
09 By Johnny
10 Christensen Copenhagen

After the catwalk I did some more browsing of the stalls and I have to admit it made me depressed. I am slightly overweight (something I am working on..I just love food! who doesn't) but my pet hate is when the stall owners do not make you feel welcome! I had enough money to buy anything I wanted today but the lack of recognition when I was standing in some stores was atrocious. A few times I wanted to purchase from different stalls but in the end after waiting almost ten minutes  and looking around at the attendants just standing there not acknowledging my existance ,I got fed up and walked away. People either are just completely oblivious or plain rude and do not deserve a cent out of my wallet.  Overall I did enjoy dressing up for the event and loved the fact I wore my DIY Chanel Brooch compliments to Gabrielle Bakunovich's blog 'How to do a DIY Chanel Brooch with items around your home'.

As promised to the left I have added a short clip of the catwalk and a few photos of the day!

26 May 2013

We have gone international to interview one of Toronto's fashion bloggers Cindy Henriques known as "Styldbytwo"

Q You are known as "Styldbytwo" where did the name choice come from?
The choice of name came from Manuela and myself. Our passion for styling and hoping to inspire others with creating their own personal style. Styld was more of an individual and creative approach to styled, whereas "bytwo" is where the two of us help style you!

Q How long have you both been fashion bloggers?

Since March 23, 2013 Officially!

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?

I have always had a huge interest in following fashion bloggers as they two are an outlet of inspiration for me; therefore i'd say other bloggers definitely inspired me to start blogging. Having a background in communication studies and experience in the retail industry my interest quickly grew and I began to wonder how I could make use of my passion for fashion and journalism broadcast. I wanted to share my ideas and suggestions on putting an outfit together and help others who are budget conscious shoppers find good pieces and essentials for each season.

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today (images above)
Today I am wearing a neon lime green skirt from H&M, white leather t-shirt from Mendocino, two tone sandals from Zara, leather jacket from H&M, necklace from H&M and black studded clutch from Forever21.

Q What inspired your outfit choice today?
I love summer because of the variation of colours, lengths and styles I can wear. Thus for this night on the town look I opted for a feminine/edgy approach to my ensemble. Pairing this bright neon skirt with a leather t-shirt, the texture and mixtures are a perfect blend. I added a spikey silver necklace to coincide with the black studded clutch. The outfit looks effortless but fun, and its the details that definitely make it stand out! I love mixing pieces and challenging myself. I am very feminine and girly with my style therefore I wanted to roughen this look by adding the leather jacket, but still keep it refined and chic! My inspiration for today's outfit was based around the neon skirt and the amazing weather.

Q What is your favourite piece this season?
My favourite piece would have to be the maxi dress. I love versatile pieces that can transition from day to night. I can't stress how important it is to have a simple maxi so that you can alter with accessories according to the event you wearing it too.

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what two things would you tell them?
Fashion is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. Just because it's on the runway or on a mannequin doesn't mean you have to abide by what you see. Fashion is a suggestion it is up to you to make it your own and transform an outfit or piece into "you". Make sure you wear the clothes and they don't wear you! Ensure that you are comfortable in the outfits you wear and that you're not trying to take on someone elses style rather than your own.
Secondly, be fearless and have fun with fashion! Allow your individuality and personality to emerge through your style. You must never undervalue your creativity and be confident wearing it.

Q What piece of clothing can you not live without?
A black Blazer!!! Whether it be a boyfriend blazer or a tailored one its a staple in my closet!! A blazer can instantly transform a casual t-shirt and jeans outfit to a night out outfit. I use my blazers as capes as well adding a more elegant and sophisticated flare to any ensemble. It is limitless and you will find it is one of the few pieces with longevity in your closet.

Q Who inspires you fashion wise?
Although my fashion inspiration comes from everywhere whether it is celebrities, friends, bloggers and even people I see on the streets. Olivia Palermo would have to be one of my fashion inspirations. I love how fearless she is with her ensembles, mixing patterns, prints and textures and looking effortlessly trendy in every outfit. I admire her because unlike other "celebrities" she styles herself, thus interpreting her individuality and creativity through her style. Her confidence transpires through her ensembles making them always look chic and refined.

Q What do you like to do for fun?
Shopping definitely! I love to scavenge the mall and local boutiques for good deals, bet you'd never guess (hehehehe)! I'm a travel enthusiast and cannot get enough of discovering other cities and countries and indulging in their culture and fashion! My next big trip is Greece, I am intrigued by its history and its unquestionably one of the countries with endless amounts to see and discover. I love spending time with my family and friends and the occasional night out to dance the night away!  I love dancing!!!

Q How can we find you?
I would love to have everyone follow styldbytwo on social media and our blog!

Key Closet Staples - What every woman should have....but do you have?

According to Debbie Wright a fashion consultant in Connecticut, you should never skimp on great fitting key closet staples. A few key closet staples that every woman should have in their closet are:

(1): Pair of fitted black pants (Keyword >fitted<)

(2): White Blouse

(3): Pencil Skirt

and my own personal tip would be (4): A trendy black blazer that can be worn day or night.

Do you have these keys staples in your closet? Don't sweat if you don't, there is no rule when it comes to fashion. Fashion to me is a bunch of styles that you mix up and make your own. These key staples are very good to have as you can pair them up with absolutely anything.

For example: A cute pencil skirt with a white blouse and blazer may be good for in the office, but when going out for afternoon drinks with your work colleagues or friends, you can remove the blazer and put on a chunky pair of earrings and take a cute statement purse! There you have corporate to cocktails.

Above are some of my very own favourite closet essentials.

(1) Black frames by Derek Cardigan
(2) Black studded blazer bought from Boohoo

(3) Black pencil skirt from Suite Boutique

(4) Over sized gold watch - A market find at Queen Victoria Markets Melbourne

(5) White & black beaded blouse from a small shop in my local mall

(6) Diamond Gem Stone ring from Lovisa.

Who said you have to spend big to look fashionable? Not me! I am all about bargain hunting and finding clothes that compliment my shape and height regardless of where they are from or how much they are. Who doesn't loves a bargain purchase? I know i do!

Love Always EC xo

Getting to know Melinda Hunter, owner of Style Bazaar! A mother, a partner, works full time, business owner and studies we find out how she manages to juggle her busy lifestyle.

Q How did you come up with the name Style Bazaar?

When I first started the business my products were shawls and scarves imported from my partners hometown in India. In India they refer to their shopping markets as Bazaar's. I then wanted to add a word to represent fashion and so Style Bazaar was born!

Q What inspired you to start your own online business?

I had always been making and selling something to friends, family and work colleagues from handmade jewellery to hand sewn bags and craft items. It is a creative outlet and one day I would like it to be my main source of income.

Q How did you determine what you wanted to sell within your business?

I look for high quality accessories that I would wear and love myself. A few months ago I was looking for good quality business handbags and would leave the shops disappointed. This is what started my search for good quality leather handbags at affordable prices.

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today (images above)
Today I am wearing a neon lime green skirt from H&M, white leather t-shirt from Mendocino, two tone sandals from Zara, leather jacket from H&M, necklace from H&M and black studded clutch from Forever21.

Q What is your favourite item in your collection?
A teal blue leather handbag, it is really modern and a great functional bag.

Q If you were to give someone a piece of fashion advice what would you tell them?
Try not to get caught up in the latest fad, stick to what suits your personality and shape and of course accessorise!

Q What item can you not live without in your wardrobe?
Red lipstick, it never goes out of fashion, oh whoops that is in my makeup bag!

Q You are a mother, have a partner, work full time, run a business and study, how do you manage all your time?
Planning is the key, from daily to do lists to weekly meal preparations. My secret is having a house cleaner which helps a lot!

Q Do you have a tip you can pass on, on how you keep it all together and manage to stay on track and focused.
I make sure I get plenty of sleep and call on those around when help is needed.

Q How can we find you?
You can find me at local markets and on Facebook & Instagram.

Q What is the nature of your business Locopa Designs?

I originally started the business many years ago, with just adult singlets and baby wear! but as more businesses cottoned on to the idea I have broadened my business to all types of clothing, accessories and of course Millinery - which I am completely obsessed with at the moment.

Q What inspired you to come up with the business name Locopa Designs?

The business name actually started a long time so, it is a family business as mum also sews so the name LOCOPA, is my mum - Louise: LO, Dad - Colin: CO and my sister and I, Pamela and Paige: PA =  LOCOPA.

Q How has has Locopa Designs been up and running for?
The business has been up and running since 2005 so approximately 8 years now.

Q Is this your full time job? If not, how do you manage your day?

I'm a full time mummy first of beautiful twin boys, Randy & Sonny, who are now 21 months old! But I do also work on the business as much as I can! Usually when hubby gets home from work and during the boys naps, I can get an hour or two in a day :).

Q What inspires you fashion wise?

My inspiration comes from everywhere, I have a huge passion for flowers and fabrics and could gaze at them all day if I had time! I also love the elegance and sophistication of racing fashion and vintage inspired dresses.

Q What is your favourite item in your collection and why?

I don't particularly have a favourite item in my collection but I just LOVE making millinery, each piece is different to the next and I look forward to putting together each creation. I am very passionate about it and also the entire industry involved with millinery - racing fashion & horse racing!

Q What item can you not live without in your closet and why?

I could not live without my runners, sounds crazy but with twin boy toddlers I am constantly chasing then and need the best footwear.

Q If you could give someone fashion advice what would you tell them?

My best fashion advice would be that fashion is what you make of it. You can make anything look fab if you know how to work it with the rest of your wardrobe! and always wear appropriate and comfy footwear, the wrong shoes can ruin your day :)

Q How can we find you?

You can find out clothing line at Kiama Seaside Markets on the third Sunday of every month or on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Locopa-Designs/242293349131561?fref=ts

Interview by Elegant Closet 09/06/2013

Getting to know fashion blogger Anne Banzon know as 4theloveofpancakes

Q What do you like to do for fun?
Catching up with friends, spending time with my insane family, I also love scenic outings to botantic gardens, zoos and beaches. I ofcourse love a good shopping outing to vintage stores and outlets, basically any place where a bargain can be found.

Q You are known as 4theloveofpancakes where did the choice of name come from?

It was honestly a whim. One night I just decided I would finally start blogging and needed to come up with the name right then and there and it was the first thing that came to mind. I thought about it for a few minutes to see if it even made sense, but I realised it doesnt need to. The name came to me for a reason and I am sticking with it.

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?
A few people close to me have always egged me on to start my own blog as they knew I was always interested in it.

I have also been following a few blogs for years now and have always loved seeing how people pull outfits together. I have always been interested in seeing how other people dress and what they have in their waredrobes. Seeing other blogs is sort of  a consensual way of being a voyuer, and lets face it we're all a bit nosey. Ultimately it was something I thought I would enjoy doing as clothes, accessories and general styling is what piques my interest. Though I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy it this much.

Q How long have you been fashion blogging?
I started my first entry on January 20, 2013. It was basically a photo diary of my trip to the US. I think after that trip, something sort of kicked my butt into gear to finally start doing something I love.

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today (images above)
Today I am wearing;

Blazer: Valley Girl

Tee: Kmart (Mens Shirt)

Denim Shorts: Jay Jays (DIY rips)

Heels: Zara

Bag: Michael Kors

Harness: Sass & Bide

Rings: Yves Saint Laurent & Etsy

Sunglasses: Prada

Q What is inspired this outfit choice/all of your outfit choices?

For this specific outfit, it was the Sass and Bide harness, The harness is big and bold and vey eye-catching. I wanted to downplay it with a baggy tee and ripped denim shorts. The white blazer and neon bag was a stark and sharp addition, but I still felt that none of the items were trying to compete with each other.

Most of my outfits are not really that thought out. I guess that's where the fun is when putting a look together. I'd manage it would drive you mad if you sat there for too long trying to make sure everything went together. After all fashion is objective, your style is your own and no else's.

Q Where do you personally like to shop for your clothes and accessories, any favourites?
It’s very varied with me. With the majority of my accessories like bags, shoes and jewellery, some pieces are more high end designer and I usually get those at online shops like Shopbop, Revolve Clothing, Matches Fashion and Net-A-Porter, just to name a few. But for clothing, my go to places online are ASOS, Topshop and eBay. But I absolutely love stores like Valleygirl, Temt, Ally Fashion, JayJay’s, Cotton On and Zara. Every time I visit those stores in person, it’s very hard not to come home with anything.

Q What item can you not live without in your wardrobe and why?
I am a crazy bag lady, just putting it out there!  I have always joked that I will eventually be the old lady who lived in her bags. I would give up everything before I gave up my bags. It’s an expensive affair, but I think a bag can make an outfit.

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what would you tell them?
Always create a point of interest, I find accessories, like jewellery, a bag or a pair of shoes can easily do this. Never say never! There have been many items of clothing in the past that I thought i'd never touch with a 10ft pole, boy was I wrong! It doesnt hurt to experiment, Fashion is meant to be fun and the more you try and discover, the better.

Q Any hints on what to expect in your upcoming blogs?

I'm designing and brewing over my last design project for school where we create a tiny collection of 4 garments in the same story. So I'm hoping to showcase that and include it in the blog soon.

Getting to know fashion Blogger Stephanie Kramer also known as Watermelon Crush!

Q What do you like to do for fun?
I love a good morning run, and music would be my passion second to fashion. Whenever I get the chance, you will find me on the floor drawing or painting, usually with a house full of lit candles and a glass of wine.

Q You are known as Watermelon Crush where did the choice of name come from?

The blog was born when I came to Sydney from Sweden, and having left my family and friends behind it was a good way for me to share my experiences and thoughts with them in words and pictures. At the time I was earning my keep at Boost Juice whilst I was at uni , and watermelon crush was my favourite thing on the menu and still is to this day.

Q You are from Sweden living in Sydney, how long have you been in Australia for?

I have been in Sydney for almost 8 years now, it is really shaping up to be 'home'.

Q How long have you been fashion blogging?

I've written my thoughts down since I was little, and I opened my first blog on Love Journal when I was 14. Though Watermeloncrush has been around for about 5 years now.

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today (images above)
A (for once) very colourful shirt from "Three of Something", and braving the cold in my favourite denim by "One Teaspoon". These heels are from "Witchery" and have not left my feet since they entered my wardrobe.

Q What is inspired this outfit choice/all of your outfit choices?

I was actually sent this shirt as a gift, and I am usually a person of lotts of white, some black and grey. When I was gifted this shirt, I decided it was time to embrace the colour and teamed it with some good denim.

Q Where do you personally like to shop for your clothes and accessories, any favourites?
Online shopping is both easy and dangerous. With deliveries happening so quickly these days, places like ASOS, Shopbob, Net-a-porter and Matches get my vote.

Q What item can you not live without in your wardrobe and why?
My golden locket that my great grandma gave me. It is almost always around my neck and though I can't imagine what I'd do if I lost it. It is a signature piece of mine that completes me - everyday.

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what would you tell them?
To dress comfortably and simply - less is more! and if you FEEL good the chances are it looks amazing too.

Q Any hints on what to expect in your upcoming blogs?

I am working on a couple of exciting projects at the moment, most of which I cant reveal yet but hopefully you will find plenty of inspiration to draw from the blog over the coming months!

Getting to know fashion Blogger Samantha Andison also known as The Sojournist

Q What do you like to do for fun?
My main loves are photography, interior design and styling. I also enjoy cooking – however would not wish upon even my worst enemy to try some of my horrid concoctions. Did I mention I dabble in comedy?

Q You are known as The Sojournist where did the choice of name come from?

The Sojournist

Define: so·journ  /ˈsōjərn/  a temporary stay.Upon expansion of “The Sojournist”, I’m hoping to transform it into a fashion & travel blog combined. I will begin exploring worldwide fashion and cultures. So in the bigger picture, the name makes a bit more sense.

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?
To be honest, I’m always taking photos or setting up fun photoshoots, I wanted a singular combined space to collectively display my work that wasn’t Instagram or Facebook. In my head it was also a justification of spending so much $$$ on clothes! *insert guilty smirk*

Q How long have you been fashion blogging?

Not long, I’m a still a blog foetus. No more than four months?

Q Tell me about what you are wearing today (images above)
This morning I ventured to the beach with a friend, so I’m wearing a bikini I bought for 20 Brazilian Real on Rio De Janiero beach, my shirt is from insight & my shorts are (let me figure that out and get back to you)

Q What is inspired this outfit choice/all of your outfit choices?

A lot of the time I’m scanning through instagram or other blogs for inspiration, not necessarily clothing but even environments, food, scenery – all the colours and textures combined inspire my everyday attire. I try as often as possible not to wear black or jeans, just a personal preference.

Q Where do you personally like to shop for your clothes and accessories, any favourites?
At the moment I can’t live without my black snood from Fur Republic to keep my neck warm in Sydney’s deadly frost. I also just bought a bright coral/red knit from the Sass & Bide sale which I wouldn’t take off even if Ryan Gosling was standing naked in front of me, & my Lover Eternity Romper which is so purely and simply converted from gorgeous syrupy lace daywear to sexy nightwear - obviously for my dates with Ryan Gosling.

Q If you were to give someone fashion advice what would you tell them?

I’ve adopted some borrowed advice which I will happily stand by for the rest of my life: “Young girls need to learn that sexiness isn’t about being naked” – Marc Jacobs.

And I suppose that if, heaven forbid, you need to wear a bandage dress or tights as pants then HOLY LORD please wear seamless underwear *insert home alone burning aftershave hands on face shock horror emoji*.

Dazzling Brilliant Mind Blowing Things…..Perhaps too much hype?

Queen

of Statements

Blog Post #19 - 7/7/2013

Queen of statements

I am not the type of girl to go out and spend loads of money on clothes that in a few seasons time will no longer be deemed as “in fashion”. Instead I happily spend money on items that I know I will wear to death until they either don’t fit anymore because of my yo-yoing weight OR until they are faded and no longer look respectable to wear in public. Those items include a good fitted pair of Jeans especially the ones that fit your bum and do not gape at the back I am sure you know what I am talking about, a white blouse that can be dressed up or down, a black blazer for day or night attire and a cute comfortable pair of ankle boots. However the last year or so I have been big on spending my money on different types of statement piece necklaces that can turn an absolute plain outfit into something spectacular and eye catching!.

Remember those Monday mornings after a fabulous and busy weekend when all your clothes are in the washing basket or yet to be ironed and you totally forget to plan your outfit the night before that the only things staring back at you in your wardrobe is one word PLAIN pieces? The fantastic thing for me is a statement necklace…something that I can literally grab and throw on to turn a simple white tee into a more glamorous and head turning outfit! I must say statement necklaces have certainly saved my life......

Key Essentials

Today was such a busy day from the word GO! I have never spent so much time on a train in my life and pretty much travelled the whole city of Sydney from South to North. Thankfully for a good book that I cannot seem to put down also helped save the day!.

I left at 645AM and did not arrive back home until at least 2.30pm (I know it isn't as long as a standard working day) but I was on one train to the next, walking around in heels, walked through a memorial garden, interviewed, visited westfields, had lunch and then headed back home catching more trains. Interviewing can be exhausting! My mouth is sore from smiling so much hehe.

The key essentials above - got me through the day and I am so greatful to be a girl! Ohh and my new Nikon camera is amazing...definitely the best purchase I have made all year!

Vintage to Jet Setter

Blog Post #21 - 12/7/2013

Vintage to Jet Setter.....

It has only been of late that I have really taken to "Vintage" style clothing or other term "Second Hand". Growing up second hand clothing was a word used for the not so privilidged people.... When I look back one word comes to mind "Uneducated". Vintage or pre loved items are not for unprivilidged people, but for people who like centemential one off pieces and are happy to purchase anywhere from a bargain to top dollar.

In the images above the vintage style patterned jacket I am wearing, was a bargain purchase that my mum picked up at our local "Mother Hubards Cupboard Op Shop". By the way when I say bargain it was a total of $4.00. This vintage classic is actually reversable with the other side all black! I was lucky enough to team it up with a vintage ty dyd style bohemian shoulder bag and a pair of DIY distressed denim jeans. CLASSIC!

I don't travel an awful lot with such a busy lifestyle of work, tafe and running a small business but I decided to travel up to my uncles place at Byron Bay for a mini holiday to recap and have a break free from Sydney and all the wonderful things that surround my daily lifestyle.  I am so glad I bought my Nikon camera just in time to take some wonderful scenic views of this amazing place that I will call home for the next four days.....BLISS!

Love Always EC xo

Getting to know

Abbey Palmer

Blog Post #22 - 14/7/2013

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview Abbey Palmer Graphic Designer/Owner of Vacant Lake. I get inside knowledge on Abbey's style, inspiration and more.....

Name: Abbey Palmer

Age: 21

Occupation: Graphic Designer

Country: Australia

Q What do you like to do for fun?

I like being around people and try to spend time with my family and friends when I can. It’s pretty clique of me, but I love designing so much that I actually do it for fun as well as business.

Q Where did the choice of name come from?

Vacant Lake was chosen through a name generator; not very genius of me but it took a lot to find a combination that worked.

Q What inspired you to start fashion blogging?

Mostly the reason I started blogging was because I wanted to explore and expand my graphic design skills. As I needed content, I chose fashion which is something that I appreciate and draw inspiration from even with I’m designing something like a flyer or a website.

Q How long have you been fashion blogging?

I started Vacant Lake in June 2011, although I had blogged under another alias for probably 6 months before that.

Q Tell me what you are wearing today?

Today I wore Faux Leather pants from Supre, a black and white top that was bought second hand, boots from Rivers and a beige cardigan from Tempt. I throw a navy overcoat on top for traveling.

Q What inspired this outfit choice and/or all your outfit choices?

Lately, because of the winter weather, I don’t have a lot of inspiration for outfits; I just want to be warm but look nice at the same time.

Q Where do you personally prefer to shop for your clothes and accessories, any favourites?

I haven’t really been shopping for a while; the last clothing item I purchased was from ASOS. I love Topshop, Sportsgirl and American Apparel but don’t necessarily shop there often. I tend to just look around and buy whatever I like no matter where it’s from.

Q What item can you not live without in your wardrobe and why?

That’s a pretty tough question! I have loads of items that I love, but the item I wouldn’t like to be without is my leather jacket.

If you were to give someone fashion advice, what two things would you tell them?

  1. Take comfort into account – if you’re not comfortable in your outfit, chances are you look it as well

  2. Pay attention to your hair; good hair always makes an outfit look great too

Q Any hints on what to expect in your upcoming blog posts?

I have a couple of inspiration posts coming up this week and then will be throwing in a few outfits and DIY posts in early and mid July. It’s going to be a big month for Vacant Lake; so stay tuned!

Getting to know
Christine Mullens

Blog Post #23 - 11/8/2013

Name: Christin Renie Mullens

Age: 19

Occupation: I’m currently employed at a dry cleaners and I attend college.

Country: USA

What do you like to do for fun?:

In my free time I love to play video games (my current obsession is Animal Crossing: New Leaf), experiment with photography and art, as well as looking for some great deals at estate and yard sales.

What inspired you to start fashion blogging?:

I’ve always been told that I have a knack for putting together stylish outfits.  People were shocked to learn that most of my outfits are comprised of vintage bargains that I had found while thrifting and yard sale’ing.  After spending some time on Tumblr and Instagram, I came across many fashion blogs.  There was something off about most of the bloggers…   Their outfits were far from affordable for the average woman or college student living with a budget.  At that moment I knew that I could bring a little bit of my knowledge and style to the blogosphere.  I wanted my blog to offer people tips on learning what to look for when thrifting/yard sale’ing and how to incorporate these items to make a unique outfit that screams style without breaking the bank.

How long have you been fashion blogging?

I’ve been fashion blogging for six months.

What are you wearing in (above)?

I’m currently wearing stripped Levi denim shorts paired with a Target V-neck and a coral Daniel Rainn blazer for a pop of color.  My shoes are Unisa white flats.  My accessories include an Anne Klein metal watch, some tortoise shell Target shades, a Tiffany & Co. heart necklace, and a vintage clutch (you can find it in my current blog post).

What inspired your outfit/your choices?

I wanted to do something very casual, but have a vintage touch to it.  The coral blazer is the perfect color material to brighten a cloudy summer day!  I’m constantly being inspired by different things for my daily fashion, whether it be a movie I watched the night before, the weather, a color, or maybe an actress.

Where do you personally prefer to shop for your clothes/why?

I love shopping at yard-sales, estate-sales, and thrift stores!  They have always held a special place in my heart, because when I was younger, my mom, sisters, and I would be able to bond over early morning deals.  I’m always able to find some thing, some little thing, that is so unique that I couldn’t hardly pass it up.  At the same time I get a rush when I get home with a bundle of items that add so much appeal to my outfits, yet I only spent maybe 10 dollars the whole day.  When I’m not working the second-hand circuit, I’m surfing the clearance racks of the department stores that aren’t quite so pricey.  My favorite retail shops that, in my opinion, have the best clearance racks are:  Dillard’s, DSW, Kohl’s, Target, and Burlington coat Factory.

What item can you not live without in your closet and why?

I would have to say my black Tahari blazer.  I’ve learned that being in college really slows my motivation to get up and look good.  So, to combat the feeling that I haven’t tried at all, I add my black Tahari blazer to my outfit.  Black blazers are the day-version of the little black dress.

If you were to give someone fashion advice, what would you tell them?

Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone, because that’s when you really start learning what your real style is. It’s always easy to look at someone else and think “Wow..they look good.. I could never pull that off.”  What people fail to realize is that it’s all about how an outfit makes you feel.  That feeling is what creates the sexy confidence that you had all along.  Another piece of advice is that brands and how small your size is doesn’t matter.  No brand of jean or kind of shoe is going to instantly make you look stylish; it’s how you take items and put them together that really separates the fashionistas from the trend-chasers.  If you dress to flatter your body, you can’t fail.

Any hints on your upcoming blog posts?

Expect lots of stylish bargain combinations and a video element.
